Updated In March, 2017 - Wardraft is a new fantasy sports site that has attracted a lot of attention in recent months. There are a number of things to do at War Draft. The service I will be reviewing is real money fantasy sports betting. WarDraft is similar to an online sports book in some aspects. You can deposit money, place bets and win money. The main difference is the kind of wagers you will be making. What drew me to Wardraft is the fact that placing real money bets there is perfectly legal in the USA. That's right, I said legal sports betting. You can deposit and withdraw money using Paypal, a company with a 0 tolerance policy towards gambling related transactions in the USA. That itself is definitive proof that betting on fantasy sports at Wardraft is legal for Americans. You won't find any point spreads or prop wagers at Wardraft. They offer a different kind of betting, which I will cover in this Wardraft review.
Wardraft is running quite a few cool promotions during the NFL season.
Wardraft is completely free and they also run free-to-enter contests in which you can win money. There is a promo running right now that allows new users to claim $5 for free. Simply sign up and use the Wardraft promo code FREE5 to claim $5.50 in cash. You can use this to play in their daily Pick 5 games. There is a 20X play-through requirement so once you have satisfied that you can simply withdraw the money into your Paypal account or request a check payout. I'm sure most people will choose to withdraw some and continue playing with the rest.
The first time I visited Wardraft it was to join a NCAA brackets pool. Wardraft is the perfect place to run a sports pool but that is not their main business, fantasy sports betting is. Their main service right now is Pick 5 betting on the MLB. Pick 5 betting at Wardraft is unlike anything you will find at a traditional online sportsbook. This is fantasy sports betting so you will not be wagering on the outcome of a single game. You will bet on specific fantasy sports match-ups, five of them in total. These match-ups change every day. Here is an example of recent Pick 5 game I participated in at Wardraft.com:
The objective is to determine which fantasy baseball player will win the match-up based on the games they played on that particular day. You can legally wager money on this because it is skill-based betting. There are several betting options to choose from at Wardraft. You will pick who you think will win each of the five match-ups. The two main betting options are for getting 3 out of 5 right or getting all 5 right. Here are the wagering options and payouts for the Pick 5 games at Wardraft:
Pick 5 Game - 3 out of 5:
Pick 5 Game - 5 out of 5:
Picking 3 out of 5 correctly isn't too hard and you will basically be doubling your money. Wardraft charges a 10% fee on Pick 5 bets so $.20 on a $2.20 wager is the fee. Picking all 5 match-ups correctly is much harder but the payouts are 10X larger. If you just randomly picked who win will you will get all 5 correct 1 out of 25 times and the payout is about 20X so the odds at Wardraft at very good. You will be using your knowledge of fantasy sports and players to increase yours odds. If you can correctly pick all five 1 out of 20 times you will be able to regularly win money.
Wardraft uses a fixed points system to determine which player wins the fantasy match-up. For a fantasy match-up between two baseball pitchers there is a number of ways for each pitcher to earn points. A strike out is worth 6 points, a walk causes them to lose a point, they earn half a point for every inning they pitch and so on. Batting also comes into play. A single is worth 4 points, a double 8 points and 12 points for a triple. Hitting a home run is worth 16 points and is the best thing that your fantasy player can do. Wardraft uses a comprehensive scoring system that factors in many things.
