Dean & Professor

Welcome to the Sigma Theta Tau, Beta Mu Chapter web site. We are very proud of the strong and vital relationship between the STTI Beta Mu Chapter and the University of Arizona College of Nursing. This relationship began with the founding of Beta Mu in 1967 and has continued to thrive through the years as an exemplary relationship between an STTI chapter and the sponsoring college of nursing.

Many members of Beta Mu are alumni or faculty of the University of Arizona College of Nursing, creating a marvelous network of dynamic members with ties to both organizations. And each year the top 35% of students graduating with bachelor’s degrees and top graduate students are invited for induction into STTI Beta Mu. In addition, community nursing colleagues are often nominated for induction in recognition of their scholarship and leadership in professional nursing careers, further strengthening our ties with stellar nursing leaders locally and regionally.

Our ties are beneficial to students, faculty, the wider professional nursing community and to other community organizations. Each year, STTI Beta Mu sponsors fall and spring breakfasts for new nursing students, provides two graduate student awards, selects Beta Mu members as recipients of awards for Excellence for Education, Practice, Leadership and Research, funds nursing research and community partnership projects. And, Beta Mu has created volunteer service projects in collaboration with Girls Scouts and with Special Olympics.

The University of Arizona College of Nursing is honored to support STTI Beta Mu in it’s many worthy endeavors. For example the College of Nursing provides meeting space for the Board of Directors meetings and for program meetings, and secretarial support for many chapter activities, such as assistance coordinating reservations for the annual banquet for installation of officers and induction of new members. And, this year two faculty received funding to sponsor 27 nursing students to attend the Beta Mu fundraiser at the Gaslight Theater, along with faculty and Beta Mu board members! I was part of that collaborative event and many others.

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Beta Mu web site. Please visit the College of Nursing web site as well at www.nursing.arizona.edu to learn of the many new and innovative opportunities available for you!
