Greetings! As the recently appointed Dean of the U of Arizona College of Nursing (July 2009), I am gratified to learn of the active and enthusiastic leaders and members that compose Beta Mu Chapter. In our College we are focused on envisioning, engaging and innovating. We do this in multiple ways that honor the traditions of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) and its Beta Mu signature chapter - in promoting leadership and scholarship for ‘improving world health through knowledge’.
Opportunities for membership in Beta Mu chapter are provided for our entry level nursing students with a GPA of 3.5 or greater, our top-notch advanced clinical or scientific practice nursing scholars and accomplished community nursing colleagues (who are not yet members). Thus, all can celebrate and openly network with those who share their motivations and talents in becoming leaders in our field. As a lead College of Nursing in the State, in the nation and with a growing reputation internationally, we are proud to have a synergistic relationship with Beta Mu chapter. Among many notable activities, we commend Beta Mu leaders and members for catalyzing outreach events for nursing students, providing student and member recognition awards in Education, Practice, Leadership and Research and for initiating volunteer community service initiatives.
I look forward to continuing our mutually enriching connection. Many of our faculty are members and are or have provided volunteer leadership to the chapter, making our ties even closer. Through the College, we stand ready to help facilitate the agenda of Beta Mu. Please visit our College website at www.nursing.arizona.edu/ to learn about our ongoing and emerging innovations.
I am honored and privileged to have named as the sixth Dean of our very accomplished College, one that can boast of having a notable STTI honorary society chapter!
Warm regards,
